Antigua and Barbuda
The islands of Antigua and Barbuda are located in the center of the Leeward Islands in the Eastern Caribbean, north of the equator and baove the islands of Montserrat and Guadaloupe.
Antigua is the largest English-speaking Leeward Island, and it is about 11 miles wide and 14 miles long. The highest point on the island is Boggy Peak at 1319 ft. The isaland of Barbuda is a flat coral island encompassing less that 70 square miles. It is about 30 miles north. An independent nation, the population is about 68,000. The capital is St. John's on Antigua. The people are friendly but expect local customs and protocal to be respected (as an example beach attire should never be worn off the beach).
The weather and climate are tropical with temperatures generally ranging from the mid-seventies in the winter to the mid-eighties in the summer. It is the sunniest of the Eastern Caribbean Islands with less that 46 inches of average rainfall. Except in September, the northeast trade winds are nearly constant.
Crime rates are relatively low but travelers should practice common sense and be alert for petty crime such as pickpocketing
